The Government of Jamaica has announced its intentions to renovate the once-famous JamWorld Entertainment Complex, turning it into the country's first 24-hour entertainment zone.
Comprised of approximately 70 acres of land, the JamWorld Entertainment Complex in Portmore was once home to events such as Sandz. Sting made its return to the location in 2023 after being held in St. Ann in recent times.
However, over the years, the venue has been vandalised and fallen into disrepair.
In 2022, the Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment, and Sport, Olivia Grange, announced that the government had obtained the property.
Minister Grange expressed that her ministry would be breathing new life into the venue, transforming it into "one of the greatest entertainment complexes you can find in this hemisphere."
Following that promise, Governor General Sir Patrick Allen announced the new plans to make JamWorld a 24-hour entertainment zone earlier today at the Ceremonial Opening of Parliament.
Sir Allen also highlighted how significant the entertainment sector is to the country and expressed that Jamaica's "excellence in entertainment outweighs our size."
The governor further stated during his speech that JamWorld's transformation into a 24-hour entertainment zone was being conducted to "address the need for designated entertainment areas."
